telc B1 Reading: task types and strategy

Von PreparaioAktualisiert am

The Reading section of the telc Deutsch B1 has three sub-tasks of different length and question type. All answers go on the answer sheet in the order shown in the booklet.

Inhalt

Part 1: matching headings

Several short informative texts and a list of possible headings. Assign one heading to each text. Usually more headings than texts — some don't match.

Strategy: read headings first, then the first two and last two sentences of each text. The main idea rarely sits in the middle.

Part 2: finding detail

A longer text (e.g. a newspaper report) with yes/no or multiple-choice items. Careful reading matters: distractors look plausible on a skim.

Strategy: read the questions first, underline keywords, locate the passage, and check exactly what it says.

Part 3: ads and situations

Ten short everyday situations (e.g. apartment search, course sign-up) and a block of ads. Match one ad to each situation — not every ad fits.

Strategy: note each situation's key requirements (place, price, time, purpose) and go through ads in order. Watch for excluders like "18+" or "Saturdays only".

Watch the clock

All three parts share the allotted time. If you're stuck on one item, park a best guess and move on. There are usually two or three minutes left for open answers at the end — use them.

Häufige Fragen

Can I use a pencil?

The answer sheet is usually filled in with a blue or black ballpoint pen. Your exam centre sets the binding rule.

Do wrong answers subtract points?

No. Wrong answers score zero, not negative. Don't leave items blank at the end.
