Common mistakes in telc B1

Some mistakes recur frequently. Knowing them makes it easier to practise deliberately.

Writing: missing prompts
A common mistake is failing to cover all four prompts. Mark the four points on the task sheet, tick each one off as you write, and check again during review.
Word order after connectives
After "weil", "obwohl" and "dass", the verb goes to the end. After "deshalb", "trotzdem" and "außerdem", the verb stays in position 2.
Example: "Ich lerne Deutsch, weil ich hier arbeiten möchte." vs. "Ich möchte hier arbeiten. Deshalb lerne ich Deutsch."
Prepositions with case
Prepositions such as "in", "an" and "auf" can take dative or accusative depending on meaning. Fixed phrases such as "sich freuen auf", "warten auf" and "denken an" should be practised as units.
"seit" vs "vor"
Use "seit" with an ongoing situation ("Ich wohne seit 2020 hier") and "vor" for something completed in the past ("Ich bin vor drei Jahren gekommen").
Oral: unclear endings
Unclear verb endings can reduce intelligibility. Practise frequent forms aloud until they become automatic.
Transfer to the answer sheet
Mark answers where the exam instructions require them and reserve enough time for that step.
