Writing: missing prompts

Very often candidates cover only two of three prompts. Note the three points on the task sheet, tick each off, and check again in review.

Word order after connectives

After "weil", "obwohl", "dass" the verb goes to the end. After "deshalb", "trotzdem", "außerdem" the verb stays in position 2. This distinction is often confused.

Example: "Ich lerne Deutsch, weil ich hier arbeiten möchte." vs. "Ich möchte hier arbeiten. Deshalb lerne ich Deutsch."

Prepositions with case

"In", "an", "auf", "unter", "vor" take dative (location) or accusative (direction). "Mit", "bei", "nach", "aus", "von", "zu" always take dative. Fixed phrases (sich freuen auf, warten auf, denken an) must be memorised.

"seit" vs "vor"

"Seit" + point in time for ongoing action ("Ich wohne seit 2020 hier"). "Vor" + duration for completed action ("Ich bin vor drei Jahren gekommen"). Confusion here is a top B1 mistake.

Oral: unclear endings

Unclear verb endings (-e / -en / -st) are noticeable to examiners. Practise aloud until automatic.

Transfer to the answer sheet

Answers must be on the answer sheet — not only in the booklet. Budget explicit time for this.

Häufige Fragen

How many weeks to fix these mistakes?

With deliberate practice and correction, four to eight weeks is often enough. Key: don't just repeat, but write and speak with correction.
