telc Deutsch B1 exam day step by step

Exam day is for execution, not preparation. The goal is to arrive rested, focused and on time with the right documents.

The Evening Before

Arrival with a Buffer
Arrive at the exam center at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start. Exam centers often close their doors punctually; late entry is usually not permitted after the start.
In the Exam Room
On the desk: ID, ballpoint pen, water. Not permitted: mobile phone, smartwatch, dictionaries, note paper, headphones.
Listen carefully to the invigilator’s instructions. If anything is unclear, ask before the task begins.
Dealing with Nervousness
Nervousness is normal. Techniques: take two slow, deep breaths, structure the task (“I will read the questions first now”), start with a small, manageable task to build momentum.
If you get stuck in the middle of a task: make a quick guess, move on, and return at the end.
After the Exam
The results are provided by the exam center; waiting times vary. Note down which tasks were difficult so you can practice them purposefully in case of a retake.

What happens if I forget my ID document?
Without a valid official photo ID, participation is generally refused. Put your ID in your bag the evening before.
Can I bring snacks?
A small bottle of water is usually permitted, but food in the room is generally not. Ask your exam center about their house rules.
