We won't give you a made-up price here. What we can tell you is how the fee is structured, what it actually counts for, and where the certificate will be valuable later.

Why we don't state a fixed price
telc Deutsch B1 is offered by numerous certified examination centers – Volkshochschulen, private language schools, educational providers. Each center sets its own fee, depending on location, operating costs, and type of provider. Prices are adjusted at least once a year. A number we would publish here would be incorrect within a few months.
The reliable way: search for "telc B1 Prüfung" plus your city, and read the current fee directly on the website of a certified examination center (Volkshochschule, private language school with telc certification).
What's included in the fee
The one-time examination fee covers registration, the written and oral exam, correction by two independent examiners, and the issuance of your certificate. Additional certificate copies for other institutions usually cost a small extra amount per copy.
Not included are travel to the examination center, preparation (course, books, online trainer), and, if applicable, a retake.
Retakes and Re-examinations
Anyone who failed the entire exam pays the full fee again for a retake. Anyone who scores below 60% in only one of the two sections (written or oral) and above 60% in the other can, at many centers, take a re-examination only in the affected section – usually at a reduced fee, often half or a third of the full fee. Deadlines and conditions are set by each center.
Where the certificate is recognized
In Germany, telc B1 is accepted for many purposes: as B1 language proof for the permanent residence permit according to §9 AufenthG, for naturalization according to §10 StAG (in conjunction with other requirements), for many professional recognition procedures, and as language proof for employers.
Internationally: telc B1 certificates are recognized throughout Europe and are accepted by numerous universities and recognition bodies as proof of B1 competence according to the CEFR. However, the specific recognition is always decided by the receiving institution.
- Permanent residence permit (§9 AufenthG) – telc B1 is considered recognized language proof.
- Naturalization (§10 StAG) – telc B1 is accepted as B1 language proof.
- Professional recognition – depending on the profession and federal state; telc B1 is often, but not automatically, accepted everywhere.
- Universities – accepted for preparatory courses (Studienkolleg access) and some Bachelor's programs in German; a B2 or C1 is usually required for regular studies.
- Employers – accepted as language proof, but the employer decides themselves.
Where preparation money is well spent
What really helps test-takers when they are stuck on a plateau: genuine feedback on their writing and speaking, and mock tests under real conditions. Less efficient are vocabulary apps without exam relevance and textbooks that are read without actively writing or speaking.
If you can only book one thing in addition to self-study, it's usually structured feedback on three to five writing tasks – not another book.
