How is the listening result evaluated?

Your points from listening are combined with the points from the reading and language module parts. This overall result is your 'written' performance. To reach level B1, you need a total of 75% correct answers here. For A2, you need 60%.

What are typical mistakes in this part?

A common mistake is to be distracted by words you don't know. Focus on the keywords you need for the answer. another mistake is not being fast enough. Since you only hear the text once, you have to mark the answer quickly.

Overview: What is DTZ Listening Part 1?

DTZ Listening Part 1 tests your understanding of short, everyday telephone announcements. You will hear a total of 5 such announcements. For each announcement, there is a statement. You must decide whether the statement is correct or incorrect. The topics are often appointments, opening hours, or information about products and services. This part of the exam checks whether you can understand the most important information in a message.

Structure and Format

The entire listening comprehension part lasts 25 minutes and has 20 tasks. Part 1 consists of 5 tasks.

For each task, the following applies:

You first read the task on the answer sheet.
Then you listen to a short announcement from the phone.
Important: You hear each announcement only once.
Immediately after listening, you tick your answer: "Correct" or "Incorrect".

You must decide quickly. There is no time to rethink the announcement.

Assessment in the DTZ

The points from listening (Parts 1–4) are combined with reading and language modules to form the written result. There is no separate grade for listening alone.

For level A2, you need to achieve approximately 60% of the correct answers in the written part.
For level B1, you need to achieve approximately 75% of the correct answers in the written part.
