Practice DTZ for free: Placement test and exercises

On Preparaio, learners can practice the DTZ for free with a placement test (quick check around 3 minutes, extended diagnostics up to 8 minutes) that covers all four skills (listening, reading, writing, speaking) and requires no registration, email, or credit card. At the end, you'll see an honest evaluation per skill directly in your browser. For saved results and a personal practice program, a free account is enough — Premium is optional and transparently shown.

No account, no email, no hidden costs. We'll honestly show you what's free — and what's not.

What can I really practice for the DTZ for free?

The placement test is completely free. You don't need an account, an email address, or a credit card. You start directly in your browser, complete short tasks from all four skills, and at the end, you'll see an honest evaluation for each skill.

We explicitly say "honest" because we deliberately don't show a fantasy prediction if we have too few answers from you. We prefer to transparently say "for a reliable assessment, we need a few more tasks" rather than invent a number.

  • Placement test — without an account.
  • Evaluation per skill — not just an overall score.
  • Result visible in the browser, no email required.

What do I only get with a Premium account?

If you want to practice longer and more targeted, an account will help you. Basic exercises and a personal practice program remain accessible with a free account. For the full scope, there's Premium — here we transparently tell you what's included.

  • Complete exam mode with all parts under real exam conditions.
  • AI feedback on your writing and speaking tasks — in minutes instead of days.
  • Progress overview: what you've practiced, where you're improving, what's still missing.
  • Access to the full task pool in the g.a.s.t. format.

Why "free and honest" is our principle

We've seen too many providers in this market who advertise with "free" but demand a credit card after three clicks or force an immediate registration. We don't do that.

With us, you see the complete placement test before you commit to anything. If you're satisfied, you can continue. If not, you've still gained an honest assessment — and that's worth more than a nice marketing number.

How to start in 2 minutes

Getting started is intentionally kept simple. You click the button above, briefly choose which skill you want to test first, and get started. The test runs directly in your browser, also works on mobile, and takes about 3 minutes as a quick check.

If you need a break, you can save your result with a free account and continue later. If you want to test all at once, that's also possible — without registration.

How to make the fastest progress — even with the free offer

"Free" for us does not mean "less useful." Even with the free offer, you can make significant progress in a few weeks — if you follow three simple rules.

First: Practice regularly, not sporadically. Ten minutes on five days is more effective than one hour on the weekend. Second: Practice all four skills, even those you find difficult. That's where your fastest progress is possible. Third: Look at your mistakes. After each task, we show you what was right and what was wrong — don't click away, briefly consider why the correct answer fits.

If you then realize at some point that you want more — more tasks, the full exam mode, AI feedback on your own letters and speaking recordings — Premium is available. But the beginning is free, and it's meant seriously.

And something else important: Even the free offer costs us money — servers, task maintenance, support. That's why we finance it through paying Premium users. If you switch to Premium at some point, you also make it possible for others to continue starting for free. That's our model — and we think it's a fair one.

And if you're unsure whether this path is right for you: Just try the quick check — around three minutes. It costs you nothing but time — and afterwards, you'll see with your own eyes if our exercises suit your learning style. This decision shouldn't be a big one, so we make it as easy as possible.
